10 essential things to carry when camping outdoors

A camping trip is a great way to clear your head and is a refreshing change from the monotony of our everyday busy lives. However, when camping, it is very important that you carry all the essential tools so that you are well equipped when in the middle of no where. What you will pack will depend on the type of camping trip you are going on. However, here are ten most essential things which a camper needs to pack no matter where he is going to.



1. Water – when camping, it is always wise to carry enough water. You can survive a few days without food but water is essential. Since, it is not possible to carry gallons of water; you should also carry water purification tablets.



2. Flashlight/ torches – living in the city, many people do not realize how dark the outdoors can be. So when camping, make sure to carry powerful torches and flashlights. Also pack extra batteries and bulbs for emergency purposes.



3. Fire-starting tools – carry enough matches and butane. When camping, it is also advisable to pack water-proof matches to be on the safe side.



4. Compass – no one wants to get lost in the middle of no where. Though in the present day the digital maps and GPS devices are more often used, the compass is more reliable and accurate.



5. First-aid kit – carrying a first-aid kit is very important. Accidents can happen anytime and you should be well prepared to treat it immediately. The first-aid kit should include essentials like sterilized gauze, scissors, gauze adhesive, bandages, cotton, antiseptic, CPR mouth-barrier device etc.



6. Rope – having a strong and sturdy rope can prove very useful in a number of scenarios. Along with carrying a rope make sure you also know some of the basic knots, for example the square knot and bowline.



7. Pocketknife/ Swiss knife – having a multi-purpose tool like this can some in handy when camping. You can use it while cooking, building shelter and building a fire. However, be careful when using it.



8. Self-rescue aids – for emergency situations, you should always carry rescue mirror and rescue whistle so that you can send signals.



9. Non-perishable food – this is especially important when you are going on long camping trips. Not only they can be stored for longer period of time but they will also give you the necessary energy.



10. Appropriate clothes – carry clothes which can are hardy and in order to easily adjust to the changing weather layering is a good idea.
