A new Buell motorcycle has made its debut, with the Pegasus Race Team unveiling the Typhon 1190. The prototype is a stripped down version of the Erik Buell Racing 1190RR superbike, which the German racing team successfully campaigned on European circuits.

Long associated with Buell, the Pegasus team claimed the 2010 Sound of Thunder Championship with a rider Harald Kitsch riding the 1190RR. The Typhon 1190 was created together with fellow German firm, Gruner Engineering, with the concept model making its debut at the Essen Motor Show (Nov 27 – Dec 5).

The Typhon is an interesting break from the last Buell Streetfighter, the 1125CR. Where the CR hid its radiator under attention grabbing air scoops, the Typhon flaunts its water-cooled heart, this naked more fully exposed. The Typhon also sources a very XB-like cowling and dual headlamps.

Powering the new Buell is the same 1190cc Twin (106mm bore x 67.5mm stroke) as the Superbike racer, presumably along with its claimed 185 rear-wheel horsepower.s

The Typhon goes on to prove that H-D may have killed Buell Motorcycles Inc, but it didn’t kill Buell motorcycles. The brand has resurrected under the Erik Buell Racing moniker, and its eponymous founder who refuses to yield his American Sportbike dream. Buell announced a 2011 production version of the 1190 superbike, dubbed the EBR 1190RS, in September (Buell Back in Business). The The company founder also voiced his approval of the Pegasus take on an 1190 naked.

Said Erik Buell of the 1190 Typhon in the Team Pegasus press announcement: "EBR is working intensely right now on getting the new 1190RS Superbike model ready for production, which is consuming all our resources.if they could build a concept model to show, so we sent many CAD models over for them and our friends at Gruner to use to speed up the design process. They did a great job in a very short time!"
We had been talking with our friends at Pegasus about our plans for a streetfighter model that would follow the 1190RS, and mentioning we could not work on it at this time.
