API 5L X42 PSL1 pipes are ultra-low or low carbon steel micro alloy pipes. Manganese, Phosphorus and Sulphur are used as alloyants to manufacture these pipes. These elements enhance the mechanical properties and strength of the pipes. The API 5L X42 PSL1 pipe is made up of 0.26 percent carbon, 1.30 percent manganese, and 0.03 percent phosphorus and sulphur. API 5L X42 PSL2 pipe has a chemical composition of 0.22 percent carbon, 1.40 percent manganese, 0.025 percent phosphorus, and 0.015 percent sulphur.

API 5L X52 Pipe is a low-carbon steel pipe with a yield strength of 52ksi. API 5L X52 PSL1 pipe is composed of Carbon, Manganese, Phosphorus, Sulfur, Silicon, Vanadium, Niobium and Titanium. API 5L X52 PSL2 pipe has a similar chemical composition; it lacks Silicon. API 5L X52 Pipes are used in the heat exchangers, condensers, pulp and paper industry, off-shore oil drilling companies, power generation and petrochemical industry.

A API 5L X60 PSL1 pipe contains C ≤ 0.26%, Si ≤ 0.45, Mn ≤ 1.4%, P ≤ 0.030%, S ≤ 0.030%, Cu ≤ 0.50%, Nickel ≤ 0.50%, Cr ≤ 0.50%, Mo ≤ 0.15%, and the sum of the Nb, V, Ti shall be ≤ 0.06%. Incase of API 5L X60 PSL2 pipe, C ≤ 0.12, Si ≤ 0.45, Mn ≤ 1.4, P ≤ 0.025, S ≤ 0.015, CEq ≤ 0.43, and CEp ≤ 0.25. Unless otherwise agreed, Cu, Ni, Cr, and Mo shall be less or equal to 0.50%. Nb + V + Ti ≤ 0.15%.

API 5L X65 PSL1 pipes are commonly used in high-pressure environments, which require higher mechanical properties. It has a high content of C, Mn, Si, P and S.
