What is scalp micropigmentation?

SMP Scalp micropigmentation, otherwise known as hair tattoo, is a procedure for men and women who are suffering from hair loss, receding hair lines, and noticeable hair transplant scars. The method is done by inserting a special SMP ink into the scalp area, imitating the look of real hair follicles. This is a non-invasive hair loss procedure and does not need any anaesthesia or surgery.

Is SMP a hair tattoo?

Is SMP a hair tattoo?  Yes and No. It is a tattoo procedure on your scalp to mimic the look of hair but is it nothing like a regular tattoo. The phrase SMP, scalp micropigmentation, and hair tattoo is often used interchangeably. Nevertheless, this is more than your ordinary tattoo and the procedure is nothing near or even similar to the traditional tattoo you get at the tattoo parlour. At https://facialmicropigmentation.com, we specialize in both scalp micropigmentation as well as facial micropigmentation for the beard and moustache areas.  Hair tattooing is intended to mimic the look of real hair follicles, whether they are on your scalp, beard or moustache.   It is an art that should only be done by a skilled scalp micropigmentation specialist. For some men, their beard or moustache does not grow perfectly and often looks patchy with some bald spots.  Beard micropigmentation can address this issue by adding density to the bald areas of the beard and moustache to add density and have a more even look.

What Kind of Needles and Ink Is Used in Micropigmentation?

SMP ink is not the same as regular tattoo ink. First, SMP does not use any other colour except black.  Most hair shades can be replicated with different shades of black.  Second, SMP ink does not change colour like tattoo ink.  Often you will see tattoos looking blue in colour as the black ink changes to more a bluish hue.  This does not happen with SMP ink.  Over time SMP ink may fade, but it will not change colours.   Our special SMP needles are ultra-fine.  We use a combination of .17 mm to .3 mm in diameter sized needles to perform scalp micropigmentation and facial micropigmentation.

Who is Good for SMP Micropigmentation or FMP Micropigmentation?

Both men and women are good candidates for scalp micropigmentation and facial micropigmentation.  Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)for men is done to cover the scalp area and to add a hairline that has disappeared due to male pattern hair loss.  SMP scalp micropigmentation for women is often done for women experiencing diffused hair loss. The procedure involves placing tiny dots in-between the hairs to add density and hide visible scalp areas. Facial Micropigmentation (FMP) is the same procedure and technique as SMP but it is intended for the face. FMP for men is done on the beards and moustaches to add density to patchy hair areas, and to cover any scars.   FMP for women is often done on the eyebrows. The method for eyebrows is different than micropigmentation.  With eyebrows, a technique calle microblading is used to mimic the fine lines of the eyebrows, unlike the dots for micropigmentation. At https://facialmicropigmentation.com we also do microblading as one of our procedures.

Can You Remove Facial Micropigmentation?

Scalp micropigmentation is a permanent solution that should not be removed because of a change of heart like a regular tattoo.  But sometimes it is necessary to remove a bad scalp micropigmentation job due to the inexperience of the SMP technician. A bad hairline that is done too low or blow outs due to the ink being placed too deep needs to be removed.  We also specialize in SMP removal at our tattoo removal division at https://tattooremoval.clinic.
