If you operate a factory that requires keeping at steady temperature for everything to run smoothly, then you requireheat trace solutions that work for you. It’s essential to consider many areas as you’re searching for the best product. Of course ensuring that you discover a firm that has affordable products, warranties, a good reputation and good consumer service is a must. But how do you tell a good heat trace solution from the bad?

Warrantee/guarantee is something that you might wish to look into if you’re making a pricey purchase. You’ll always want to have a warranty that the product will be substituted if there is an issue because weeks and months can go by before the root cause of the issue is identified and resolved. Meanwhile, you are losing valuable production which can easily surpass the value of the heat trace product itself.

This raises another interesting question: How do you ensure that replacement/substitution will arrive in timely manner as to minimize the down time? The answer is simple. Minimize the use of custom designed cables from the beginning (during the design of the plant). For high temperature application, although having long history and still required in some instances, MI (Mineral Insulated) heating cable would be the bad choice because each MI heating cable is custom made to individual lengths at the cable factory. This means standard lead time of 6 weeks (2 weeks at shortest). Furthermore, MI heating cable is series circuit cable. This means that if even one area of the cable is damaged, you lose the entire circuit (length) which will require full reinstall. Instead go with parallel circuit cut-to-length cable. If you go with the cut-to-length you can ensure 1 week (as short as next day) arrival and you can simply replace/splice the damaged area with the replacement cable. If your factory is large enough to require replacement on regular basis, you might want to even consider holding spare cut-to-length cables on site for immediate repairs.

Because heat trace product may be the last thing on your mind you might be persuaded to rush into a buy. Take your time to make research ahead of time. It can save you millions of dollars on the long run.
