Over the last decade, Medical Tourism has emerged as a major driver of foreign exchange in India. The major reason behind the uprising popularity of medical tourism in India is the high standards of health care facilities at comparatively low costs. People from First World Countries and Third World countries are choosing India as their base to get their medical treatments and crucial surgeries done. Though affordability factor is the trump card for Indian economy, other factors which equally contribute in the growth of medical tourism in India include high quality medical services, inexpensive long term accommodation, vast pool of skilled doctors & surgeons, state-of-the-art infrastructure and compassionate staff of the hospitals.
Liver transplants, cosmetic surgeries are some of the fields that are encompassed under the roof of Indian Medical tourism. Here we'll be going to touch 3 crucial arenas in the vast repertoire of medical treatments that can be rightly called the buzzword in global medical travel.
Liver Transplants
In general terms, Liver transplant is referred to the procedure of replacing a failing Liver of the body with that of a donor. The body parts that are transplanted include liver, kidney, heart, lung and small intestine. Any kind of transplant requires blood group matching and health check up of the donor. Donors suffering from underlying health problems are not appropriate for transplantation. Liver transplant in India are caused by diseases such as hepatitis, cirrhosis of the liver and also due to certain medications. Other is kidney transplant caused by diseases such as diabetes and lupus. In such cases, family members are considered as the best donors as the perfect match is required. The living Liver donation is done when only one kidney is required. This is done because the donor can live with a single kidney as well. For transplantation of both kidneys, selecting a patient on life support as the donor is the better option. But the Liver transplantation is not the end of the disease. It follows a long recuperation process with intense medication where in patient is kept on strong immunosup pressant drugs so that implanted Liver can work properly.
